Tim Nies is a U.S. military veteran, having served as an Airborne Ranger with the Army's elite 75th Ranger Regiment. After his military service, Tim began his attorney career defending personal injury cases for insurance companies and large corporations, including Fortune 500 companies. He was a senior Casualty Attorney for the largest, and arguably, the most respected insurance defense law firm in the world, with more than 450 attorneys.
Tim knows the insurance companies' playbooks and is known for being a warrior when battling insurance companies on his clients' behalf. Tim is one of a select few that litigates Defense Base Act claims on behalf of injured military contractors working overseas.
Christian Van Riper is a talented trial attorney. For years after law school, where he graduated at the top of his class, Christian prosecuted and tried serious felony and DUI cases for the State of Florida as an Assistant State Attorney. Christian also served as a DCF investigator for the State of Florida and a law clerk for Florida's Supreme Court.
Clients benefit form Christian's knowledge of the law and his trial law experience in maximizing recovery for clients who have sustained serious injuries due to the negligence of others.
Sarah is our lead paralegal. She has been working in the legal field for over nineteen years. Sarah joined Van Riper & Nies in May 2010. She has specialized experience in not only personal injury cases, but also in the litigation of maritime injury claims and claims under the Longshore & Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and the United States Defense Base Act. Her duties include meeting with clients, drafting and preparation of legal documents, responses to discovery. Sarah uses her considerable litigation experience and superior customer service experience to fight for the rights of the firm’s clients. She has been a licensed Notary Public since 2002 and is a mother of two. She enjoys spending time with her family, boating and traveling.
Sandra an experienced and passionate paralegal. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Indian River State College in 2019. Sandra assists the attorneys in the prosecution f personal injury cases. She is known for her considerable multitasking skills and for preparing injury cases for trial. Sandra assists clients by providing regular contact and updates on their cases, managing the discovery process, and assisting in the drafting of pleadings, discovery responses and document production. She stays late to make sure that our attorneys are prepared for depositions, mediations, critical hearings and trials. Sandra enjoys spending time with her family, going to the gym and participating in competitive racing.
